8 Special Mommy-Daughter Date Ideas

Posted by Mekenna Malan on

We all want to make time for our little ones! Going grocery shopping together, exercising together, making meals together or having a movie night can all count as low-budget and low-effort mommy-daughter dates, but what if you want to make it a little more special? Read on to discover eight unique and creative mommy + me dates she won't forget, and some perfect mommy + me outfits along the way.

1. Make a time capsule.

This will be one of the most memorable mommy-daughter dates you facilitate, and can be repeated as frequently as you like! Fill your time capsule with both of your favorite things at the moment and a drawing from the day. Take a picture of the both of you creating the time capsule and put it inside. Hide the capsule somewhere safe, or actually bury it to make it extra fun (just be sure to mark it clearly so you can find it later)!

2. Have a backyard picnic or tea party together.

Gather up your favorite picnic snacks or teach your daughter how to make homemade lemonade and other tea party foods. Dress up in your favorite fancy clothes, put down a blanket (inside or outside), and enjoy each other's company! Making the preparations for the tea party together is half the fun - let her help you make the food, pick flowers for a bouquet centerpiece together, and help each other dress up for the occasion.

3. Get a free department store "makeover."

It's fun for your daughter to feel glam and all grown-up! Go to a department store or beauty supplier for a fun and free outing. You'll be able to learn all the informative things about your skin tone, makeup techniques, and new products, and she'll get to feel special too (even if the makeup clerk only dots her face with some blush and lip balm if she's young). Go out on the town afterwards to show off your new look, and take the opportunity to teach her that her inner beauty is what really counts.

4. Visit a special place from your childhood.

Plan a special day trip for this, or work it into your itinerary the next time you're in your hometown. Take your daughter to your favorite childhood park, your old school, or your secret neighborhood spot. It'll feel extra special to recount your own memories while she makes new ones in a place that means something to you.

5. Have a stargazing party.

Download a stargazing app, put on some cozy clothes, make some hot chocolate, and snuggle outside under a pile of blankets while observing the night sky. It'll be a fun opportunity for the two of you to get some fresh air, learn some science, and maybe even segue way into an important conversation about belief systems or the larger-than-life forces that brought you both together on our small planet.

6. Let her put on a fashion show with clothes from your closet.

She'll love trying on your clothes (and makeup, if you'll let her!), especially if you bring out your favorite clothes you saved from when you were younger. Every momma has that one pretty dress or blouse her daughter would love to try on! A retro fashion show with your old clothes could be even more fun, though, especially if trends and styles have changed from what she's used to seeing.

7. Go on an overnight stay-cation just the two of you.

This could mean camping out in your living room, your backyard, or actually getting an inexpensive hotel room to make it feel even more special! An overnight stay-cation offers a lot of one-on-one time for a mommy-daughter spa night, movie night, or whatever outing you find fun. Don't forget the pillow talk, and don't forget the snacks!

8. Go for a sunset walk or hike and talk.

This mommy-daughter date is completely free and takes little effort, but it can have a lasting impact! Sometimes, spending time together one-on-one is as easy as taking a walk around the neighborhood or on the local hiking trail. The takeaway here is that a mommy-daughter date doesn't need to be something extravagant - all your daughter really wants is some alone time with you! Take the opportunity while walking together to breathe some fresh air, ask questions, and chat about the important things.
