90's-2000's Trends that are BACK

Posted by Kenzi Didericksen on

The trends that are current and popular right now have us wishing that we (or our mothers) saved the trendy clothes from 20 years ago. Whether you like it or not, 90's and 2000's trends are back and better than ever! It’s becoming more apparent that fashion trends are always circling back, so don’t dump those skinny jeans and ballet flats out just yet; but for now, let’s talk claw clips, cardigans, and platform shoes.

Claw Clips

This is a trend we can stand by forever. Not only are they incredibly stylish and cute, but they are also convenient and versatile. They can be worn with formal business attire, or an old, baggy t-shirt. Put your hair up, keep it off of your neck, and don’t worry about the pesky ponytail crease. We are thoroughly obsessed with claw clips.

Color, Color, Color

Neutral tones will always have a soft spot in our heart, but the 2000's have called and color is back! Bold pinks, greens, yellows, and oranges have never looked so at home in your closet. Pair your colorful outfits with a trendy beaded necklace (or other spunky jewelry) and fun hair. A statement color piece is the look you need this year.

Thick Headbands

A bold headpiece is the cherry on top of any great outfit. Whether you choose to use a headband in a practical way to hold your hair back, or use it in a more fashionable way worn with your hair loose and in front of your ears, a chunky headband is an accessory your closet needs.

Bandanas

Bandanas are extremely versatile in not only what you wear them with, but also how you wear them. Tie them around the top of your head like a headband, around your hair like a hair tie, or around your neck as a kerchief. The opportunities are endless, and so are the designs and patterns.

Bike Shorts

Bike shorts are the perfect combination of leggings and shorts. Let your legs breathe, but still allow yourself the luxury of buttery soft bottoms. Biker shorts look great with an oversized t-shirt, hoodie, or crewneck, or wear them to the gym for your next workout. You’ll never want to take off this ultimate comfort item!

Mom Jeans

It’s no secret that denim jeans are not always the most comfortable clothing piece, and for this reason, we are not too sad to say goodbye to the skin-tight denim that has been popular in the recent past. Don’t be afraid to size up on your denim jeans! A baggy, high waistline is a trend we could get used to as it is both comfortable and flattering.

Platform Shoes

Be it sandals or sneakers, the platform style will elevate any outfit (quite literally). Give yourself that extra height without the discomfort or imbalance that heels often bring. Platform shoes look great with long, baggy jeans, a summer dress, or sweats that cinch at the bottom. Basically, anything your traditional shoes will look good with, your new platform shoes can replace.

Vests

Fall is around the corner, and with fall comes layers. Lucky for us, vests have made a comeback in full force, making layering easier than ever. If it’s warm, wear it by itself, and when it cools down, layer it with a turtleneck!

Oversized Clothing

You won't catch us complaining about this trend. T-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, sweatpants, and hoodies all fit best a couple of sizes too big. The key to pulling off the baggy outfit look is to pair it with lots of accessories; try bold, chunky shoes, a hat, and lots of jewelry!

Cardigans

Cardigans are a great layering piece, but they can also pass as a top/dress on their own by buttoning up the front. They can be reworn, restyled, and redone in a countless amount of ways. Cardigans will add that pop of color, extra layer, or unique texture you want in an outfit.

Flair Pants/Leggings

What used to be the staple mom fit is now the ultimate trendy vibe. The flair leggings or bold wide-legged pants are alive and thriving! Pair the flair bottoms with a baby tee, a knit sweater, or, of course, an oversized tee or hoodie.
